In our day where information about anything is very easy to get.  The vast world that is full of information is commonly known as the digital world or the internet.

Various information was available in the internet world.  If we pay attention, each source of their information in various fields is doing marketing.

With a clear goal that is for consumers to subscribe to their products.  Process, as described above that, is commonly known by the general public as digital marketing.

But is that true?

For example, a digital watch may show hours, minutes, and seconds each as a whole number only. In summary, digital information is (a) discrete, (b) counted, and (c) accurate (as opposed to precise).

  • Every reproduction of digital data is an exact facsimile of the original because it’s the code and not the waveform, that is copied.

From the definition above then, we can draw the conclusion that digital in business terms is a representation of data or information in figures (such as in a table) in contrast to as a chart, graph, drawing, or other pictorial forms. According to the business dictionary meaning of marketing is:

The management process through which goods and services move from concept to the customer. It includes the coordination of four elements called the 4 P’s of marketing:

(1) identification, selection, and development of a product,

(2) determination of its price,

(3) selection of a distribution channel to reach the customer’s place, and

(4) development and implementation of a promotional strategy.

Marketing is based on thinking about the business in terms of customer needs and their satisfaction. 

Marketing differs from selling because (in the words of Harvard Business School’s retired professor of marketing Theodore C. Levitt) 

“Selling concerns itself with the tricks and techniques of getting people to exchange their cash for your product.

It is not concerned with the values that the exchange is all about. And it does not, as marketing invariable does, view the entire business process as consisting of a tightly integrated effort to discover, create, arouse and satisfy customer needs.” 

In other words, marketing has less to do with getting customers to pay for your product as it does develop a demand for that product and fulfilling the customer’s needs.

It’s not just marketing the product in various ways so that the product can sell.  So it does not pay attention to what are the interests of consumers, whether consumers need it or not, whether the data we give to consumers genuinely and or not.

Sometimes it is true that when we are chasing sales targets, we can act ‘wild’, by using all means so that sales targets can be achieved.  Although without regard to the relationship between the needs of what we offer to whom we offer.

So there are many marketing processes that are no longer marketing.  But it becomes spam, annoying, and becomes coercion to consumers.

When the data given to consumers should be the result of analyzing the original and accurate data because we are ‘wild’ we no longer provide data that will still indoctrinate or half force the consumer to buy the products we offer.  Really it has damaged the meaning of digital marketing itself.

If we are guided by the meaning of what is the definition of digital marketing itself (like what we have discussed above), then when we market and offer a product to consumers, in marketing and offers we submit original and accurate data.

And we as a digital marketer have learned from the results of data analysis that consumers who are given these offers really need the products we market and offer.

If the meaning of the sentence digital marketing can be realized, then the world of digital marketing will become a world full of solutions for every consumer. A world where digital marketers have accomplished analysts and financial heroes for consumers. 

The world where digital marketing is not just selling products or services, but the world of digital marketing is becoming a world of consulting for consumers to find solutions to their financial problems and needs. A world of mutual benefit and happiness with each other.

In my perspective that’s the true meaning from what is the definition of digital marketing.
